Did a test recently, bought a bag of seeds (big bag) from one of my suppliers to really test out their seeds.
It was a blend mix, containing cool season grass:
40% KBG
40% creeping red fescue
20% Perennial rye grass
Well as soon as I open the bag after...

Fine fescue has a thin, almost needle....
Ryegrass both annual and perennial, has a distinctly red colored base germinates quickest, (72 hours under ideal conditions.) Fine fescue is a bit slower--about a week.
Cool and dry is good.

Hi,
This grass area always looks good during the middle and late summer, then goes down hill and looks the worst in winter. The pictures enclosed are now (February). I over seed this area in spring and fall. This area does not drain well so water pools...

Go ahead and seed: blue/rye/....
Red fescue may not be a good option as it is not suitable for poorly drained areas.
A creeping red fescue or something similar

Bermudagrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Kentucky Centipedegrass, Creeping Red Fescue, Chewing Fescue, Fescue that you cant spray Zoysia at the same rate as fescue.
