You should use the patch tool, the patch tool is found in the same tools set as the spot healing tool. The spot healing tool will work also, but it depends how big the blemish is that you wish to remove. source

Check out Inkscape , an open source vector graphics editor. It's probably not quite as suitable as Scribus for what you want to do, but I've always found it easier to use. source

The main difference between photoshop and lightroom is that lightroom is good for global adjustments, whereas photoshop is good for selective adjustments. For a basic primer, just get a copy of photoshop elements to start. Still won't give you soft proofing, but it does give you some selective control via adjustment layers and masks at least in adjustment layers. source
