I don't get all of these posts talking about moving to a new, "cheap" FX camera and not hammering Nikon for the d300 replacement that is LONG overdue.

The d100, d200, d300 segment of the market, has been that wanted or bought a d300 and couldn't afford and/or didn't want the d700 aren't suddenly going bottom feeder performance ....
Was the D300 and that was promised for the future.

Got D200 - like colours etc. when using 100-200ISO - not so good after 400

About 90% of the photographs I made with my D300 were taken with a tripod at base ISO, and for me and D300 have identical sensitivity metamerism indexes.

I ask because in the midst of all the hoopla, I recently picked up a 2nd D700, used and at a very nice price. I know other folks who aren't into latest-and-greatest photography that have done likewise.
Wondering whether the D300 has the same mystique....

Took this image tonight using my trusty old D300 and Sigma 300-800mm. Conditions not the best by any means but still had to give it a go. The image really needed too much PP but thought I would share it it anyway.

Others had mentioned this possibility and, to be honest, I wasn't overly thrilled at the prospect. I just didn't see how Nikon could cram that many pixels into a DX sensor and still have decent high ISO performance. Of course, it would also likely be ...

Personally, I'd like to see a D7000 successor at 24 MP and a speed demon D300 successor at 16 MP that it will actually perform better than the d300 at ISO 1600 and above?
