I work as windows system admin for 5+ years and then work as sql server dba for 1+ year.
I notice that Oracle DBA earns more than SQL server DBA. How much is the $ difference upon annual salary today? Wonder if it is worthy to move to oracle/unix side...

The difference in pay isn't that great but for long term and more ERP exposure, you would find a difference as if the need is not there, or two many present then there will be no difference.

High-level: DBO is the owner.
There is no builtin role called "dba" in SQL.
A dba is not a system role, it's the title of the person who administers your database server ( D ata B ase A dministrator).

Should a DBA record passwords for application logins , or should this be a responsibility of developers/analysts? By application login, I mean the login which an application uses for access to the database. There will typically be one per application....

The DBA, it's the job of the DBA to reset it and provide a new one, but they should definitely not be keeping, or the QA passwords for that....

At previous sites - including secure government sites, i was able to send email using UTL_SMTP. I am now at a commercial site and it appears that the SMTP out server is not set up and the DBA's have not installed...
