You cant make darker hair lighter magically.
If its naturally dark (as in you have no hair dye on it at all) u may be able to use a high lift and then do your color.

It works for all hair types.
And if you decide you like it, dye your whole hair.
Dye the tips of your hair first to see if you like the color (if you don't you can cut off a few inches of your tips).

Mine that some ash blonde shades will actually have the opposite affect on dark hair – making it go orange.
It really depend on how dark your hair is now and how light you want to go.
