I have a M2N-E motherboard from ASUS, can I install ram that run at different clock speeds?

I've had plenty of cases where RAM sticks that tested just fine... .
Many times, I've found that mixing RAM speeds sometimes causes system instability .
When different speed RAM modules are used, all of the RAM should clock to the speed of the slowest module .

Basically, this stuff is way to expensive to buy (it's old tech) but I was wondering if somebody would swap their DDR2 1066mhz RAM for my DDR2 800mhz RAM.
All 8 Gigs would rule, but if you can only swap 4, that's great too. I've posted this on another...

It's just that....
Yeah, wow, those timings to take no for an answer .
Maybe a better question is does anybody have 4-8 GB of PC8500 DDR2 1066mhz RAM? I've got four 2GB DDR2-1066 as a standard until 2 or 3 years after the initial DDR2 standard.

I Have this Older ASUS MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/ 6813131595 I am finally using in a Build I hope to bring to the LAN. I am having trouble finding the the higher DDR2 1200 RAM? Does anyone have a few extra sticks? or know of a good source?

You get down there, I might just get a couple of 1066... .
Can't find it now of course, but for what it's worth... .
Thanks hit if you use ddr2 800 vs.
I'm in the same boat with my ddr2 c2q setup...
Putting that money in a new cpu/mobo.

If a motherboard's specifications say it supports DDR3 SDRAM sticks, would I be correct to assume it is also compatible with DDR2 RAM? Am I wrong, or does it depend on the motherboard?

Supports DDR3 SDRAM sticks....
Both have different key placing so they won't even will provide entirely separate slots for DDR2, but you cannot use DDR3 in DDR2 slots, or both types together.
DDR3 and DDR2 are designed differently.

I'm getting a few old computers to take apart for parts soon. Most of them are defintely using DDR2 RAM, but there is the possibility that one or two of them are using DDR RAM. Since these are quite old, the manuals have since been lost. Is it possible...

(But it's been a while since I've seen DDR ram, so I could be wrong!)

In DDR, the notch should be close to the centre, wheras ddr2 is further off-centre.
DDR2 has more pins, and the notch is in a different place.

Considering purchasing one of two laptop options which have almost the same specs with the exception that the version with DDR2 RAM is $100 less than DDR3 (there are a few other tiny differences that I'm not too concerned about, such as NVIDIA graphics...

For a given speed, DDR2 is likely better that option might get you, it....
It depends on the memory speed, but I would say no .
DDR2 is currently much cheaper than DDR3 solution.

I am looking to buy a ASUS M4A79 Deluxe motherboard at NewEgg and under the specs there is a note regarding the memory standard for this MB. It says:
Memory Standard:
DDR2 1300(O.C.)/1200(O.C.)/1066 * /800/667 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory Due to AMD...

If you use DDR 1066, AMD specifies that ....
So u=N82E16820134863
What it is saying that DDR2 800 and 667 is supported for all 4 DIMM slots.
You are correct in how to maximize that mb's ram with 4 - 4gb DDR2 800 sticks.
1066 DDR2.

If you were speccing a deskside compute box (something like a quadcore XEON or Opteron and a bunch of RAM) to run code that is not highly memory bandwidth dependent, would you worry very much about it using DDR2 vs DDR3 RAM?
Going with newer machines ...

In short, if you need huge quantities (8,12,16gb) then go DDR2.
That said, if your requirements are not going to exceed say, 4gb here) your box for upgrades .
Going for DDR2, then so be it.

I have an Asus M2N-E motherboard, currently with (qty 1) DDR2 module Kingston KVR533D2E4/1G. The board has 4 total slots.
Going to upgrade and I'm wondering if I can mix sizes -- can I add a 2G module and keep the existing 1G?
Thanks.

If you're putting in the same brand/model, just different size, I wouldn't see a problem... .
The only thing to really look out for is that they are compatible .
You can have different sizes, and even in most cases, different speeds (Not suggested though) .

Or look it up at www.crucial.com ....
Post this information here ...
You can run SIW , it will tell you make and model of your mainboard .
You need to find the specs for your motherboard as it varies widely .
That's primarily dependent on your motherboard.
