Where are you getting these numbers? I'm no stat junkie, but a quick search shows NE's pass defense wasa half yard per game from last and, IIRC, historically bad .

Range 80+ and mage 85+ and eventually might get 40 defence If you really want to invest in the account, make it 10 Defence unquested / 20 through "nature spirit" and "what lies below.." and get recovered.
