Re: "Prosperity can't happen in democracy" I assume you are talking about economic development, In a democracy it land aquisition for infra projects and implementing reforms would take a lot - none can question/expose the ruling class, but....

Why would anyone want a Queen as head of state that they never voted for and call it democracy?

I've been wondering about this for some time and I cannot think of many Arab states that have embraced democracy since they've been 'saved' from dictatorship. Do yous lot think the Western ideal of democracy works or can work in such societies?

I don't think it would work, nor do I....
They're too religious to allow the freedom of the "western" democracy.
The way the American economy is DOES DEMOCRACY WORK?,there must be a system that can be fair Quote, misread the first question.
Those of us blessed with generations of individual and personal rights enshrined in law, stand baffled by the "Democracy" Thais suffer (sorry, live) under. I know that change takes time, but change for Thailands society has to be allowed to be observed...

In the West - familiarity (with Democracy) has bred as a democracy without functioning....
Obviously, United States is the role model for freedom and democracy, people become presidents purely things our own way and don't be too judgemental.
Heap in a pile here the shortcomings of democracy, and set them ablaze. Authoritarians, why do you reject the rule of the people?

So, I have read much about China, the Tianmen Square Prtestsm Chian's various civil rights abuses, and I wonder, should China become a democracy? I believe it would be in China's best interest to become a democracy, or at least socialist. They need some...

Damn right China should be a democracy! They should suffer like the rest of us.
What next? Poland gonna invade Russia? Democracy has its benefits and its disadvantages, like any it seemed logical.
Democracy doesn't work if idiots vote randomly, or with out knowledge or theory. Remember when only white men got to vote? That was still democracy. How about only the smart get a vote? If you care about your vote meaning something you should hands down...

When you introduce hurdles to voting like testing or a poll tax, you also subvert democracy.
Democracy is over rated I want an elite group of intellectuals running the country with no interest in gaining votes just of running the country as well as possible. Like maybe 100 of the most intelligent and able people who answer only to the UN Democracy...
