I've been wondering about this for some time and I cannot think of many Arab states that have embraced democracy since they've been 'saved' from dictatorship.
Do yous lot think the Western ideal of democracy works or can work in such societies?

Those of us blessed with generations of individual and personal rights enshrined in law, stand baffled by the "Democracy" Thais suffer (sorry, live) under.
I know that change takes time, but change for Thailands society has to be allowed to be observed...

Democracy doesn't work if idiots vote randomly, or with out knowledge or theory. Remember when only white men got to vote? That was still democracy. How about only the smart get a vote? If you care about your vote meaning something you should hands down...

I want an elite group of intellectuals running the country with no interest in gaining votes just of running the country as well as possible. Like maybe 100 of the most intelligent and able people who answer only to the UN
