I've read about it, I understand it's basic function--I'd like to know an example of a common, real-life use for this pattern.
For reference, I work mostly with business applications, web and windows, using the Microsoft stack.

I tried to design the ui with some ui mocking software, but i found it's hard for me to settle down all the detail of the design, since the database didn't design yet.

If you can't design your UI because you haven't yet designed that this approach has is that it doesn't prejudice the UI with a particular database design or vice versa in application ....
You'll need to bring that UI to life.

I'd look at A List Apart and....
A List apart provides a great bunch of tips and tricks and also articles on web layout and design.
Engineering (ie, not on aesthetic side of design), which is quite controversial to many web designers.
