I'm Using Windows 7 and have a HP Deskjet 6122. HP doesn't offer a native driver for Windows 7, but tells me to use the driver for a printer called 990c instead. I did that and the printer works with that driver.

You can download and utilize the HP Deskjet 6940 or 6980 driver.

As long as you have the printer software suite installed place the image to be scanned on the platen glass and press the scan button on the printer, or click the scan option via the software... .
What you have done is just copied the pictures, not scanned them .

Some drivers are very specific about the operating system version, so you might have to wait until they release Windows 8 drivers (if they make them for your model) .
Since Windows 8 has not been released yet not all drivers are going to work with it .
