Installed Debian, network worked.
Moved the PC to the cafe, no network.
there is a router, and plugged to that a switch.
The other PC is a WinXP.
Unplugged the WinXP cable, plugged it into Debian: still no net.
Removed /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-...

No switching between dhcpcd and dhclient did nothing for me, just with my wireless card drivers then,seeing as....
But I had this problem, and changed the dchp requester in wicd to dhclient from auto which cured the problem for me.
Not work.
