It's harsh, in that if you die, you lose all in-spent XP that you have bloodstain, but if you die on your way there, the xp is lost forever.

I know it's a stupid question and there's no real answer because we can't exactly raise the dead and ask (unless...) but has this always just been a superstition? I always thought the shock of dying in your dreams would cause your body to go into shock...

Personally, I find save-or-die spells highly dissatisfying. No-one wastes them on mooks, and against bosses they're completely anticlimactic. It doesn't matter what the rest of the party does, the mage quite possibly just one-hit KO'd the boss, or else...

Those that allow two saves?) It would also have to be case-by-case because the exact definition of "save-or-die" is fuzzy.
Save-or-Die spell that only allows one save deals heavy amounts of damage.

My car is a 1986 245 stock everything daily driver. A couple of times now, it has died. While driving down the road, the fuel stops flowing to the cylinders. All the dash lights come on, radio works, heater works, Starter works, just doesn't turn over...
