Just read a similar topic for petrol, does anyone have any comments on the diesel. Have always used sainsburys & no problems but just wondering if buying for e.g Shell diesel at a highr price will produce more mpg hence cheaper...

On all 4 cars, there was a marked trouble free and happy miles and a Black Diesel one sits in its place.
Octavias now, and have had both a petrol and a diesel Leon as well.

VW TDI Diesel Gets 120 MPG on one Gal of Diesel with CNG blend!!
I will give the math up front. 2001 VW TDI 129 K using my new CNG blend test system.
Round trip 90 % Highway 75-80 MPH.
60 Miles round trip used .51 Gal of Diesel and 1.2 GAL (GGE) of CNG...

$4.00 a GAL for Diesel and get 40 MPG so for 60 miles it was $6.00 and for me with CNG blend it cost gallons of diesel: 33422.8 BTU
1.2 gallons of CNG: 198,750 BTU
total BTU: 232,172.8
or the energy in 1.8 gallons of diesel.

Why do diesel electric trains use diesel to turn electric motors? Wouldn't it be more efficient to just use the power from the diesel?

Straight diesel of about 300 hp - anything over that and diesel electric drive is more efficient.
That it would absorb much of the energy generated by the engine before it got to the wheels .

What is the best choice for diesel fuel to run in the 1026R? I see auto diesel and truck diesel at the gas stations. Im new to the diesel engine but the price is cheaper for truck diesel? I confused!

I would not want to buy lower cost off-road....
If you can find off-road diesel, you should be able to get it even.
I don't know why the prices are different unless there's a difference in state tax .
Auto and truck diesel should be the same.

Like anything the companies know you want it, so it costs more .
You get a lot more bang for your buck with diesel which is the big reason.
Aside from being fuel, Diesel and Gas are very different things.
