For directions and using a rectangle node, if I give.
Impassable and then use a path-finding algorithm to walk across lawns; but that'd be more work than that can be used for pathfinding and directions.

How do map providers (such as Google or Yahoo! Maps) suggest directions?
I mean, they probably have real-world data in some form, certainly including distances but also perhaps things like driving speeds, presence of sidewalks, train schedules, etc. But...

They may not work everywhere, they don't in Hmm, ... .
In fact, as far as I am aware, that's the only released version to date .
I'm seeing this in 6.2.0.5905.

Aright I must confess I eh know nowhere past Chaguanas- went down Sando about 15 yrs ago & that was it, so I need directions all the way to Penal from up North (perhaps POS ) then Siparia, and back up North- I have to go down to Singer stores in Penal...

The store is walking distance from the stand ..
When u finished u just walk to the traffic light and get a siparia maxi or taxi and go to the taxi stand in siparia ..
The stand is just opposite the store.

Walking to Mordor.... If you ask Google for directions from The Shire to Mordor..walking..It very helpfully gives you a map....and a warning :
