My game used to work fine. The last time played was about a month ago.
For some reason I'm getting an error message when I try to start it.

If it isn't the Install, it DOES sound like a Windows Direct X or GPU Driver problem.
Not sure if your version of the game is a non-English install I think).
Of them were foreign language results.

My nephew is an aspiring game developer. I have taught him a bit of C/C++, and suggested he learn that for a start.
Once he has come to grips with that, which game/graphics API's do people suggest he learn?
I would think DirectX would be current industry...

Knowing these APIs does not make you a game programmer gaming consoles have their own flavor graphics API based off either OpenGL or DirectX mention.
DirectX includes audio, networking and input.

With GfWL oblige you to have an internet connection to play the game.

Been converted to a console a Medion with an I7/8GB/1TB and gaming g/card for around £649 and thats cheaper than building gaming pc's or if money is no object....
