I am assuming this is due to an injury during your active duty .
You should file now, since you state that it is documented in your SMR .

The tax credit is non-refundable, i.e., if the applicant's income... .
They can then claim the Disability Amount on their tax return.
Canada Revenue offers a Disability Tax Credit of about $7k...looks like these guys specialize for the credit.
