I have no idea what happened ... but all documents on my desktop disappeared. Some program icons too ... it's very puzzling... I am sure I have not deleted them ...
Can anyone help?

Right click on the Desktop folder in the new location, select Properties open the Location Tab and click... .
Desktop should be under C:\Users\%username%\
You could drag and drop it to there, and try restarting your computer (or just restarting explorer.exe) .

As usual I left my computer running overnight. This morning I turned on the monitor to see a default Vista user account instead of my own profile. But the Start menu showed that it was logged in as my own account!
My Documents and all other profile folders...

But as long as you got the right profile after a reboot there should... .
This can happen, I'm not sure why.
And when it logged in again Windows detected that your profile was damage and used a temporary profile instead .
The computer restarted for some reason.

When browsing a network share which contains volume mount points, said mount points disappear from the directory listing. The mount points are still accessible directly by path, just not present in the directory listing.
The machine is a Vista SP1 32 ...

I have an application that write data in the programdata folder in vista. The application seems to write data to that location but the folder is not visible. What will be the problem for this.

Hi, I have a window service for my application. When i stops that by killing process with task manager, tray icon does not disappears. Is it a window bug or something else? Do we have a solution for that problem? Thanks in advance :).

I've noticed this behavior in all versions, but that might be too expensive.)
You can let the icon disappear by calling the Dispose()-method in your application so it will not disappear....
Move your mouse over the icon, and it will disappear.

I'm not sure what the proper term for the window outline is (chrome, I think?), but it keeps disappearing.
As you can see, theres no File->Exit or buttons that allow me to minimize or close this dialog. So instead it stays on top of everything else...

Double click an area of the window to go back to normal. .
It's called tiny footprint mode.
It's sort of a mini mode that's been available for many years .
Double click anywhere in the window and they will come back .
It's a feature in Task Manager.

In Windows Vista, if you select 15 files (say text files) you can right click and select Open (or whatever the default action is for that file type). If you select 16 files, then Open disappears from the list.
Is there anyway to extend or remove that ...

In the following C++ code, I realised that gcount() was returning a larger number than I wanted, because getline() consumes the final newline character but doesn't send it to the input stream.
What I still don't understand is the program's output, though...
