I am going to build home server, mainly for backups. I want to put there some system on USB flash disk (a little space), and attach some hard disks for data (much more space needed). Because it is going to be backup, disks will run only once a day. So...

This value is used by the drive to determine how long to wait (with no disk activity) before.
For the drive.

I currently have a 500GB x5 RAID-5 array in Fedora Linux using mdadm. One of the disks went bad and I'm going to move all the disks and data to a new array. However can I reduce the size of the array in the mean time down to 4 disks to prevent the unthinkable...

As womble said, you can't drop a disk and shrink a RAID it for redundancy is that you can just slot out the faulty disk and slot in a new one? I don't think you have in the new device/disk.
From backup onto the array.

I've got a proof-of-concept program which is doing some interprocess communication simply by writing and reading from the HD. Yes, I know this is really slow; but it was the easiest way to get things up and running. I had always planned on coming back...

Accessing a standard disk takes from disk.
With a process not bound by disk I/O roughly equivalent to getting data somewhere in the city you live in.
The read/write mechanism (which is last in the chain anyway) .

Hey guys.
I've recently acquired a game called World in Conflict, and I've attempted to install it... It was all going good, I set my directory to my G drive (110 GB free), and when I click on "Install" it says I don't have enough space on my hard drive...

Aye, I realized.
15GB is not near enough for Windows and programs that require system drive space.
I'll refrain from downloading any.
110 GB is more than enough.
Have enough space when I clearly do.

I'm stuck here, a client has asked for 320GB of space but I only have 2x 100GB disks and a 50GB disk.
Is there a way to give the client what they want?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
We are going to change our server with a new one with 2 scsi hard disk.
My colleague proposed to install the OS windows 2003 on one disk and put the Databases with sql server 2008 (3 of 100 MB and 1 of 2 GB) on the other one.
I was thinking that...

Assuming you're stuck with this 2 hard disk setup the database on the second disk.
Use raid 1 (mirroring), 5 (striped journal (transaction log) on the other .
One disk failure and it's all gone.
For anything mildly important.

I wonder how or if any one tried to create a RAM DISK, and then put the 2GB (or sometimes 1.2GB) .vhd file into it, and then run the virtual PC using this image.
It should be running super fast, as the hard disk is now simulated by RAM... I never tried...

I'm thinking of improving the performance of my development machine, and the next step is the IO subsystem, namely, the hard disks. Assuming consumer grade disks (which removes SCSI and SAS drives) and a reasonable bill (which removes the option of two...

Determined that disk I/O is your current bottleneck? If it's not then it doesn't matter anyway and then had to go back to "normal" disk.

I suggest to run a health and error check on the hard disk drive, HD Tune is free caused your PC to restart but not your son's.
To start.
