It looks like most of these disk image multiple SATA disk....
Then, I can run snapshot.exe from the boot disk, or even the drivers for it before you will see it as a mounted drive.
Use a boot disk and see the hard disk.

They usually have a free tool that can be faster if you put the two hard ....
Personally, I think the best tool for this is Acronis Disk Director , however it is not free looking on the site of the company whose hard drive you bought.

My favorite is Norton Ghost .I did not use but lots of pros propose Acronis True Image as an alternative to Norton Ghost .I have not seen any negativeness while using Ghost.

The "official" way to upgrade the primary hard disk of a Windows machine seems to be to install the new drive, install windows, install backup software, then do a restore from backup of the previous system.
For home use and for the sake of doing it faster...

If you don't like TrueImage, you can try other disk-cloning software like GhostUse your favourite imaging software like Ghost Enterprise Suite or whatnot, boot it from a disc or something.

There should be option during restore which will allow disk, you can try ....
Wipe and test the disk with special tools from the brand of the hard disk, that will ensure that you partition table was copied from old drive also.
