I have a pc with a German version of xp on one hard drive and a Portuguese version of Vista on another drive.
Both installations work fine, the only thing that needs repaired is the startup/boot.
I had XP working on it's own then vista on it's own, but...

If you just for XP, letting EasyBCD "auto-configure".
The Vista repair disk is to fix Vista if it won't boot.
Have any reason to repair anything.

Save your data, replace ....
Your options are:
Take the disk out and connect it to another computer, save your data, reformat, then reinstall Windows.
I hope that your important data is all backed up .
Your hard disk is most probably failing.

Only some applications were affected, most notably from c:\windows\repair....
The problem with the applications persisted.
In ..\config then my xp fails to boot (The same core problem) so i just again copied c:\windows\repair disk.
