Is it possible to use the command line utility ditto to keep two folders in sync on a single OS X machine? In other words, does ditto copy only changed files from the source, and delete removed files from the target?

You would be better off using rsync tools.
No, ditto does not copy just the changed files.
If you want to sync two folders, consider rsync instead .
I don't think ditto does what you believe it does.

I'm a Linux guy and I'm used to copying directory trees with cp -a . OS X doesn't have -a option on cp ... but it does have the ditto command. I'm reading the man on ditto now, but is there anything I should specifically be looking out for?

-p does NOT follow symbolic ditto and cp which is that when source is....
I have used ditto on BSDs but don't have any gotchas for you that aren't in the man page never messed with ditto

-L follows symbolic links.

I'm using Ditto Clipboard Manager and wish to share the clipboard on multiple machines on my home network. I've heard that you can do this but haven't found any help on it.
