i know the coldest day this year where i live was -22
and i had to feed that lil bugger alot more than normal. had to keep it above 400
to keep it at 75 in the living room,
with 3 good runs to 650 stove top to keep it nice and...

You could perhaps add a padding-bottom to the body that is equal to the height of your position: fixed element.
Have you tried inserting your widget at the very bottom of the <body> tag? It would follow normal flow.
