To not try and make a Buddha?? I'm not a student of Dogen or a Soto Zen student, but it seems to me that what Dogen is saying is a variation on "ordinary mind is the way" or "just be ordinary" which other zen principle in Zen.

Sometimes when I read Dogen's work my head wants to explode due to many reason. Mainly it's confusion, or somethings seem crystal clear to me, having deep insight that makes perfect sense. Other times I think I understand what he is talking about then...

For those folks unfamiliar with his writings, Master Dogen had some very interesting perspective(s) on time. And I emphasize the word " perspective(s) ", because he wrote of an infinite variety of ways of looking and experiencing time (and "no time") ...
