In Jeff Atwood's latest blog entry on Windows 7 he talks about getting people to move off of Windows XP.
What, specifically, can be done in Windows 7 that cannot be done in Windows XP?
I'm not looking for usability or GUI improvements, unless they happen...

Little, and the much better support for dual monitor systems, things that on XP had to be done with third party.
They do get work done a lot faster.
Has a programmer mode and works so much better).

I've been recently wondering about the over-proliferation of DSLs like R - and thinking whether this is good or bad. Specifically, I wonder what right has R as a stand-alone language and environment? Wouldn't it be much better to build it as an internal...

Probably anything that can be done in R can be done in python.
Lastly, the CRAN Task Views also give a nice overview of what is being done with R written or conceived for that purpose.
