I have gone around in circles with this one on my 2001 P38. After the posts I go last time from the MOT emissions issue and just the lambdas reading way above what they should I have checked everything and even replaced...

As Fridge said above your engine as most of my mileage was done going down to the alps.
This down more easily.

Slowing down on hills isn't, mine would cruise all day at 90 up hill & down.
From memory 3k@70mph is about right.

Jumping out of low box sounds just like some levers need adjusting on the side of the box, I'd be surprised if wear in the box would make it jump ... .

Maybe someone put synthetic oil in the boxes? It does smell different .

Of tyre size and gearing is dropping your cruise speed down too far you'll end up in "kickdown hell" where you have to kick it down to maintain your speed, it speeds up, you ease of the throttle

I'd say the perfect scenario occured if the centre line of the tyre was inline with centre line of two identical bearings .
