My main argument are giving ~90MB/sec read.
If someone test it and find the SSD over the network faster, go with the local drive.

Almost....
5.4k, but because it's a different drive than your operating system drive (that is assuming your laptop only has one hard drive, which is the 5.4k in question).
Not because it's 7.2k vs.
I'd go with the external drive.

The answer to this is likely "It is not possible.", and from what I know about filesystems and storage, I would say the same thing. But, I thought I would try the great wisdom of SuperUser:

I have a 1 TB external hard drive that I'd like to share over my local network. What is the best way to do this ? FTP, Windows sharing, etc. ? Most of the computers run Windows XP/Vista.

This is also known as NAS - network attached storage .
You want to share, and click on 'Sharing.'
PS: Yes you can share a hard-drive on the network, but you will need a special type of hard drive.
