Right, I realized there has been some controversy regarding this perticular SATA 3 controller ( 9128 ).
I have had some odd issues with my new SSD and not really sure if it is the controller itself or if it is me who cannot figure out the proper settings...

Used to use this to add additional SATA ports to my MOBO. Massive waste really as this card supports 4 devices in either RAID 0, 1 or 5 configs. The card also has an eSATA port on the backplate. Item comes in original box with driver CD, original paperwork...

At worst with SATA II, you'll lose a second or two in booting, but in most things, the sequential speeds....
The sequential speeds will max-out SATA II capabilities in tests, but the other aspects will be virtually identical.

Back in the days of PATA hard drives, a person used jumpers on the drive to indicate whether the drive was the master or the slave of the channel, or to let the cable select which drive was which.

Some SATA drives have jumpers to enable/disable 3Gb/s functionality or other backwards compatibility....
On SATA-II drives, a jumper is sometimes used to set the drive into SATA-I mode for compatibility with older controllers.
