Are there still reliability problems with high capacity magnetic disk drives?
When 500GB and 1TB drives first appeared on the market, they had significantly lower reliability than their smaller (250GB and less) brethren. I have first hand anecdotal experience...

I have an HP8530 laptop that currently has two 250GB drives in a RAID 0 configuration. I'm trying to replace these two drives with a 250GB solid-state drive plus a 500GB drive (with no RAID of course).
I've installed Windows on the SSD, and I can connect...

Hi all,
I'm struggling to find any documentation on this, I know the Dell PowerEdge 2950 supports both SAS and SATA drives but I'm not sure if I need to anything to swap them over, do I need new caddies for example. Can I just swap the drives?
Many thanks...

The Dell support person I talked to claimed you could not just swap the drives.
There are exceptions, but they're a few weeks ago.
As a general rule, wherever you have SAS drives you can use SATA.

I'm designing a file server based around ZFS and I'm considering using USB flash drives in RAID 1 as boot devices. It seems that few people do this, and I'm wondering why. From what I see, using USB flash drives have some benefits:
