I have to build a garage before I start any projects. Don't want to use house garage. Too small.

We're in a Quonset hut style building which is nice .
I have an overhead beam with a pulley hoist, it is awesome if you can do one.
hoist also....mine will hold 5000 that sure makes it nice..

I'm putting in a storage shelf (aka loft) in the garage and the engineer says I should use 2- 16" LVLs. For me those beams would weigh about 160 lbs each. I'd like to do this myself, so how can I hoist these up so I can set them? I can't rent a fork lift...

Wally ? They also rent a hand operated fork lift for lifting duct work that normally has a capacity of 320 lbs or so.
Very common at the larger tool rental places.
You might look into renting a scissors lift.

Just a humble little 30' W. x 24' D. with 8 ft. high doors I had built about 15 years ago. Broken into once, you might notice the bars on the window I made afterward. One of the pics is older, & I have since insulated & drywalled, & moved things around...

I'm starting to agree! I had a electric chain hoist.
The winch for it at Harbor freight for like 79.00 or so it's supposed to lift 880 lbs with the line though I think every shop should have one.

You got 4 more feet than me. lol I had to go 24 X 36 with the new shed. Only so much land and money. Got it about half finshed inside now. Isulation and drywall. You can never have a big ehough shed, not when you have a full blown addition to old junk...

I left the center....
I had some other circuits added for basic lighting and outlets but I knew in Side Bay .
An exhaust fan and laundry sink, vehicle lift, and welder.
In the appropriate locations for a future two post lift in the center bay.
