I always avoid installing software that comes with hardware devices if I can .
Did you download the latest version (8.1, release date 22-September-2009) from the KODAK website?
older versions may not be compatible with Windows 7 .

Are you using any of the actual Easyshare software or just using it to transfer, then Easyshare isn't needed at all.
You might need to upgrade on their support.
I noticed you're using Easyshare version 5.
But nothing worked.

As to whether it will improve performance, probably not to a great degree unless you frequently take long videos .
The M583 can use micro SD/SDHC cards up to 32GB .
An 8GB class 10 would work fine.
