Should software engineers and computer scientists know the fundamentals electronic engineering such as circuits, capacitors, VLSI and other important concepts? Do you think that training in this area makes for a better programmer?

I need a simulator for electronic circuit and PIC for linux to study PIC design, and I tried EAGLE,piklab,geda, hard to understand.. I don't know which is most suitable for learning circuits and PIC programming. Does anyone knows?

Learning PIC programming you'll need a good development....
It won't learn you stuff but as a supplement to education/book it could be what you're looking for .
It is good enough to simulate circuits and getting usable results .
I've used LTspice in Linux using Wine.
