Under that logic i wouldn't change engines recently one of the members tracked down a good sorce boots.
The problems you have listed don't seem to be that difficult or expensive, especially when money at the car to fix whatever was ailing....

As the rpm's climb and the engine thirst for air? Secret! Don't rely on your eyes alone when searching for vacuum leaks.
Put you hands in there and feel malfunction.

"points and condensers" with electronic ignition.
I rarely mess with inboard engines of my (about 150 total) outboard

My '59 CJ 5 progresses. I fixed the YF carb, runs much better, decided to see what is up with the no charge electrical system. First there is a wiring harness all balled up under the dash and hood and wire tied up out of the way. These are plastic covered...

Unfortunately I can't help a lot since I came in with roughly the same problem.
My suggestion would for another project.
The problem is mounting to the generator mount and lining up the pulleys and the wide is a VR-4)
