What is the best book to start learning ethical hacking ?

I also found Hacking Exposed to be a particularly good book, but it is focused primarily on network... .
For stack overflowing (used by many a hack), Smashing the Stack for Fun and Profit is the definitive guide for how this works, and how to protect against it .
Recently there was an ethical question asked , but I'd like some input on what might be included in a comprehensive code of ethics. I'm thinking of something along the lines of the Hippocratic Oath that professional software developers would hold to. ...

I can understand ethic....
There is good programmer and bad programmer (and the scale between) .
There is no ethic in our profession.
I probably to cynical on this:).
To take code from work so what ethic question is here ? Just take it.
Is it ethical to hack real systems owned by someone else? Not for profit, but to test your security knowledge and learn something new. I talk only about hacks, which does not make any damage to system, just proves there are some security holes.

How do you know that flipping a given bit the wrong way isn't going to completely destroy... .
The key flaw I see in your question is that you seem to believe it is possible to correctly assess from the outside what the damage hacking will do to a given system .

He is in a position of trust and should respect others' privacy .

When asked to enter the license, use the one from the sticker on the computer your installing... .
My opinion: with label => Any XP installation CD (but not a recovery CD, meant for another type of computer) should 'enable' you to install (=is ethical).

I don't know, a GIF can be re-created....
So whether you store the original GIF does not seem to make a difference, security wise .
The signature can still be extracted from the PDF.
If it's grey enough an area, I'd vote for don't-store-it .

It sort of goes without saying, but your client would be the one to determine if they even want... .
I see no ethical problem here if you disclose that your primary expertise is on platforms other than the one that they're hiring you to develop on.
