For the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Certification Books list You obviously intend "hacking" to mean "ethical".
Is it ethical to hack real systems owned by someone else? Not for profit, but to test your security knowledge and learn something new. I talk only about hacks, which does not make any damage to system, just proves there are some security holes.

They ought to be paying security firms to do this for them and if they have contracted you, reading articles on internet security... .
More ethical to leave stuff alone that doesn't belong to you or you don't have explicit permission ethical.

Generally, it is perfectly legal, and even ethical to modify an Open Source project and sell.

This is a tough question. Would you consider it unethical or cheating to set the priority of a multiplayer game to realtime via task manager to make it run faster? Is this really any different from buying a gaming computer? I can see how it might be unethical...

In OS design interactive programs are usually given a higher priority just because users expect them to operate faster .

Those are real 'ethical' and....
Now if your company was advocating clubbing baby seals.
It's not an Ethical matter, it's a work matter, and at the end you must hardly regard it as an ethical or moral issue.
Want it that way, then yes.
