Dear all,
does anyone have experience with the Nikon AF-S 80-200 mm / f2,8 in combination with the Nikon TC 20 E-III teleconverter? Currently I've the old one (Nikon TC-20E) and the result at 400 mm is a little bit soft.

It's possible that some of this is missing focus - the D200 doesn't have live view or the ability to adjust... .
I use the TC20 EIII with my 80-200 AF-S for bird identification shots with my D200, and find it very soft, particularly at the long end of the zoom .

I have just bought a Nikon AF 105mm f2,8 Micro for macro work but I have also found a used 180mm AI-S 2,8. Is this something to consider?
I would then be using it mostly for macro work and probably with some Kenko extension tubes. My thought is that this...

Personally, I have used the 105VR+1.7TC, the advantage being that you get a higher magnification factor .
You could also try to find a 70-180 or 200f4.0 .
This will definitely work, but focusing will be more difficult than with a real macro lens .
