I like to 'finish' the cleaned faceplate with a layer.
Wipe it down with a damp microfiber cloth.

I just picked up a very nice 2270 and was looking on the auction site and noticed they made a Champagne Engraved Faceplate but I cannot see, tell what they are talking about?
The color of the faceplate is the same as all the rest. And the lettering...

It's easiest for me to see when I look at the "Stereophonic Receiver" in the upper right of the faceplate.
It pressed "into" the faceplate.

When I run my finger along the top of the faceplate I can feel current through it. It reminds me of the plasma balls you put your fingers on. If I turn the power on it goes away, this can't be normal right?

You have live on the chassis instead of neutral 'sposed to be about 1Mohm chassis ground to isolate metal from electrics....something might be touching or... .
Have you tried the lick test? try swapping the wires over on the mains plug it should cure it . .

Does this setup look kosher?
I was trying to turn a short length of 304 SS, and I realized I had to do it between centers. My new lathe dogs had tails too short to work with my drive plate; they wouldn't reach from the workpiece to the slots in the plate...

I would have used an aluminum bushing in place of the two steel toe .
Your own center, mild steel ok, so you can get closer to the faceplate or dog drivers and avoid?

Order a replacement faceplate is to check and make sure none of the tabs or springs on the main unit that actually hold the faceplate are broken....I often see a broken tab in those kinds of thefts and at that point the new faceplate....
