How does free trade and fair trade affect the economy? Doing a project on it, i get what fair trade is about but how do fair trade and free trade clash?

I went to something called the may fair today and steve larkin was selling gliders there. He uncovered the cage to show me one of his blondes and in an 18"x 18" x 24" cage he had well over 30 some gliders and most of them could not have been over 6 weeks...
