I need to detect when a fax machine answeres an outgoing call. NV_FaxDetect and the zaptel fax detect seem to only work in calls originated FROM a fax machine, not for calls ANSWERED by a fax.
Can I use AMD function?

On u-u-verse u-talk? I previously had an IP based provider and the fax and by security system would work. My understanding is that most fax machines are analog and therefore won't work with a digital IP system. I went back to a 'standard' ATT telephone...

Strange but true.
Also, if you just take the phone off the hook, and unplug the handset, it will ring anyway .
You just don't hear it ringing.
It sounds just like a regular call to the caller, and will go to voice mail .

What should be the best way to recognize that a number is connected to a fax without actually sending faxes around ?
I suppose that a short phone call can be made: the goal is to determine if a number that is declared as a fax line is really a fax line...

With the fax machines, but there are even E-fax solutions with flexible APIs that would let you doI just use an E-fax service.
