I advise that before running, you should go some stretching first, you body isn't that really prepared... .
Are you that active or in a frequent exercise training? If not so, then that's the reason why it hurts.
Could be a heel spur / minor fracture.

For some reason the socks seem to help, maybe it's just because my feet are warmer.
The podiatrist did give me Capsaizan HP Cream to use on my feet when they get very painful is put the cream on my feet & then put on the socks.

Only been riding MX for a efw months but after yesterday this is the third time i've woke up the next day and the ball of my right foot is killing.
