Can I fix a hard drive that fell on the floor and started making a nasty grinding noise? My usb portable hard drive fell off the table, landed on the floor and started to make a horrible grinding noise. I assume the platters fell off the spindle? (I think i'm making these terms up) If i open it up (seagate barracuda) would i be able to salvage... Your best bet is to backup your data as quickly as possible . No! If you open a hdd you'll lose all data unless you send it to some fancy data recovery lab and that costs oodles of money .

That dude is.... I am guilty of trimming a few tree limbs with 12Ga slugs, and the occaisional felling of a tree with the FAL or M1A and tannerite, but nothing that big.
