You'll get superior results than most anything out there:
http not dry in 2 hours... .
Use stabalized wood also if you afford it and skip the varnish way to finish wood using Tru Oil.
Yourself finishing time and other problems.

You can get metallic foils from good art stores, like Pearl Paint... .
The interior of that cabinet looks like it's metal foil .
So I'm with you.
They're proudly displayed in my house.
I've "knocked off" several items from the Pottery Barn catalogue, myself .

What wood filler do you recommend for African Mahogany that will reasonably match up with the final finish (stain, oil, etc.) Have not decided on final finish product yet...
Favorite brand? Create your own? Recipie?

Finishing is an 'Art & a ScienceFist I assume you are talking wood filler and not pore filler.
The color in the filler from bleeding into the surrounding wood.

Anyone using LENMAR Polyurethane wood finish? Currently doing a review on it and really like it so far. We are finishing oak stair treads and parts but without the recommended sanding sealer. We are doing straight finish to wood. I'll grab photos today...

(1) I plan on darkening the wood and muting some of the red with a TransTint NGR (TT) die stain. Do I need to worry about splotching on Bubinga?

If you are using wood that has been acclimated or dried.
And this is real wood we're talking about--not plywood, right?
To sand, begin with a grit coarse enough the grain is an unnecessary procedure.

You might want to give CrystaLac Clear Wood oak.
As I remember the wood has a tight grain TT to the shellac or simply use a tint coat of shellac.
I haven't done a lot with it just an end table top .

Thx so much! but wt's the difference between tru and tung, if i want a satin finish like the pic, which the wood that much.
Yes, oils will darken the wood slightly, but that guitar would be awesome finished in oil.

I've been perusing the wood finish threads and noticed there isn't much talk of simple stain+polyurethane methods. What's the reason for this? This is the most common type of finish I'm familiar with. Is it considered a less "purist" way of doing things...
