I would say no, do not do this.
A non-vented fireplace? Are you burning firewood in a wood burning fireplace or woodstove.

You're right it didn't heat the entire home but it did a good burning.
So we have gas a cold snap and we left it running .
Gas fireplaces are 'standard' here, it's unusual to have a wood fireplace in a home.
