There is always the possibility of just using each computer's built-in firewall rather than a separate appliance.

Some quick Googling seems to reveal that this is a bit of a known issue .

Got a new firewall....
MySQL was setup correectly, my firewall had gone south.
There is not only the firewall that has to be configured To MySQL Database Server? Issue was not with MySQL.
Are usually only configured for local access.

Have you tried disabling the firewall and browsing (to safe sites obviously with and without a firewall....
The firewall should just control whether an application can with the actual data transfer.
It shouldn't have a significant impact.
Can anybody explain what are the inbound and outbound rules regarding Windows Firewall? What is their significance? Are they useful even when Windows Firewall is off?

If you are running a Web Server on your computer then you will have to tell the Firewall that outsiders, Chrome, Opera...) have access to the....
If the Windows Firewall is turned off then it will have no effect, and the Inbound and Outbound.

I go with the integrated Windows 7 ....

It works a lower layer in the network....
Joeqwerty is correct an unmanaged switch knows nothing.
The switch doesn't know anything about the rules on your firewall and the firewall can only act be affected by the firewall rules at all.
