River salmon fishing?
I saw several Salmon in the AuSable this past weekend. They were all dead except one and I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy. source
River Salmon fishing on the hook?
Anyone anchoring up during king season on the Kenai would be lucky if they ONLY got dirty looks and cusses thrown at them. More people can fish the "good spots" when all are drifting and backtrolling. I've fished in Oregon where hog lines are common and unless you are born with a spot you are pretty much SOL in accessing a lot of areas on the rivers. source
Why do they commercial fish for salmon?
It seem like there are so many professions that become obsolete, will commercial salmon fishing eventually be one? I dont mean in the sense of being replaced by farmed salmon, but by using a more economical method of harvesting the fish, such as a fish wheel or some other form of trap at the place that they are returning to. Since salmon always return to the same location at a predictable time, it seems like there would be a much more efficient way of harvesting them commercially, especially the ones that come from hatcheries. Think of all of the labor and fuel currently being used with the current method. It seems like it would be much more efficient to harvest them using another means. Is there some reasoning why this is done the way we currently do it? source
Salmon Shark or Great White?
We saw that photo 3-4 weeks ago and the only verification I've heard was it was someone's cousins uncle's boat that supposedly caught it. It was never in the local newspaper or comments by the local biologist about a big shark being caught locally so it raises suspicion. source
Newport Salmon Saturday Anyone?
Planning on giving Newport a try for the first time this year on Saturday. Sounds as though everyone is doing pretty well, so though I would give it a try. Plan on being on the water at about 0600, so give me a holler if you see me, I will be in the red Alumaweld Intruder with twin Hondas. source
