We purchased a 3 teir water fountain and love it but after a few days water is green and dirty, it's too big too clean constantly, wondered if there was something to put in it to keep water clearer, I know bleach works well but not good for birds or flowers...

I'll be moving house shortly and was thinking, are fountains REALLY worth it?
My kitties do okay without it but for £25-£35, I'm thinking it might help them. I guess the things that worry me are noise, mess, upkeep effort and running cost.

From the mistakes of others" You CAN put a little bleach in the water which won't hurt anything breathing.
