On a recent JAVA project, we needed a free JAVA based real-time data plotting utility. After much searching, we found this tool called the Scientific Graphics Toolkit or SGT from NOAA. It seemed pretty robust, but we found out that it wasn't terribly ...

JHandles is an alternative graphics package for Octave.
Not free though.
Configurable and quite fast.

Does anyone know of a free graph plotting app for windows (or online) that can plot something like this?
X n+1 = r sin (π * X n )

I'd try Gnuplot.
See Science: Math: Software: Graphing for a few dozens of plotting applications.

What Python plotting library do you recommend?
It should be noted the following considerations:
is it cross-OS? speed how clean it's interface? "prettyness" of the resulting plots License etc? In the Python Wiki there is a list , but there is little comparison...

As mentioned....
Whenever I'm trying something new, I'll skim through there to see if an example publication-quality graphics .
I have been using matplotlib for my plotting, and have been extremely pleased thus far that generated the plot.

I'm writing some data acquisition software and need a gui plotting library that is fast enough to do realtime updated graphs. I've been using Nplot which is pretty good for a free library, but I'm wondering if there are any better libraries (preferably...

If it is ASP.NET then I recently have used Google Charts with some .
Their support is excellent as well can try out the free ZedGraph .
But we have had very good results with Nevron.
Well, not free.

Are there any open-source charting libraries (at this point, I don't care what language/platform it's available for) that can produce "really, really, ridiculously good looking" plots, preferably with features for "scientific" plotting such as error bars...

I have used JFreeChart for my charting/plotting needs in Java in the past.

Hi all,
I spend most of my time plotting data, but unfortunately I haven't found a decent solution for my plotting needs. At the moment, the most powerful and pleasant library I found that performs plotting is matplotlib. The results are stunning, but...

It's quite old, and quirky but it provides the most advanced plotting system I've found....
You may want to check out Igor Pro.
It is extremely powerful of plotting data.
R being free, I would try to stick it out with that.
Them to be.

My realtime app generates a data log: 100 words of data @10Khz. I need to analyze it and produce some plots of the results. There are intermediate calculations involved - I need to take some differences, averages, etc. Excel would work fine, except for...

As a backend it can use (as shoosh suggests).
QT has a complete 2D plotting framework via QPainter .
Heavy load though.

It has come to my attention that I need to do some more specific plotting before I continue writing. This is the first time I've written anything longer than a PB and I'm feeling like I'm floundering a bit.
I have the beginning and the basic end in mind...

You might check the library for books on plotting, or do an internet search for them.
