You could have a P-trap then rushes ....
When the unit turns off the water that is held back then rushes down the pipe.
I was worried to hear water running / dripping into the ground as it almost sounded.

The house builder will have fitted that tap in to the loft and there is no water coming out of the pipe when it reaches the expansion tank.

I haven't seen anyone smoking a pipe in years. They still sell pipe tobacco, and I see ads for pipes..but outside of an old guy I saw last October, heve never seen one.
