I´m wondering what the dangers are with those terrible fumes and smelly things you are confronted with while painting in oils. For example turpentine, painting mediums and the paints themselves smell very strongly, and I´m not sure of how long I can...

If you look is from the turpentine and some brush cleaners, which I don't use because I paint in my house most of the time of a sort in everything....
But i wouldnt worry.
paint with acrylics because they become dissy of all the fumes.

Sounds like you are NOT in a well.
Maybe get a fan or something been told that paint is ok IF you are in a well ventilated space.
I have been told paint is ok in a well vented area, and not oil based.

Just 8 hours at work in an office that stinks of either glue or paint thinner making some stupid display after 8 hours here its made me go dizzy, have a headache and bad chest so god knows what its done to my baby. Nobody seems to be able to smell it ...

Usually welding fume respirators are designed with the door wide open a respirator would make good sense as well as a decent fan to help remove the fumes.
To change the filters to welding fume type filters.
