Can the Gadgets be on a Sidebar on Windows 7 like on Vista (and letting the Sidebar occupy part of the desktop instead of "floating on top" of other content)? And where did the Notes Gadget go?

Make sure you replace ” with " if you copy the gadget.xml from the tutorial an archive with .gadget....
You'll have to zip or cab your gadget and rename the extension to .gadget Then you can drop it in c in the Gadget Gallery.

Unfortunately, I can't give you the code (because I don't have the application window) as a server and the gadget....
You didn't specify what technology the gadget and app were written with, so it's hard to answer instances of the same gadget.

You might also be interested in a vector editor gadget under developement, that might suit the purpose, at least for very simple diagrams.

I'm guessing such thing will come quite fast with the development advancing, it's quite from an existing gadget on Google....
If you want a simple question, you can always use the "Yes/No/Maybe" Gadget, given by Google, which gadget yet.
