I find that the main gain is the tooling, being able to set once you get use to it, it's really not such....
I would say that the productivity gains by using C# to be able to develop solutions faster.
An actual study, just my own experience.

Given a typical developer usage, I am wondering how much gains/utility can one derive out of a multi-touch Win7 Laptop or a Surface device.

I've used Photoshop for quite a while and often hear that providing it with a scratch disk will help with performance.
Most computers come with tons of RAM and hard drive space so does a scratch disk still provide any performance gains in today's computers...

I have just moved from phase 1 to phase 2 of a project. In this transition we got rid of all of the XML configuration for spring and struts2, switching to a fully annotated regime.
All of the participants are amazed at the actual effect this has on development...

I think its because the configuration information is in the same place with the code .
I don't have productivity figures like you but I have seen significant improvement when moving from xml configurations to annotations .

I gain the performance benefits such as faster texture loads, and if I have a failure performance gain by putting your money in places other than RAID 0.

I have paid capital gains tax. On TV a couple of people have said that tax on capital gains is double taxation. I see no reason why someone would say that. I await enlightenment.
